Icon Interlude Christmas Contest Results

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 23, 2006, 2:30 PM

The Article can be read and faved Here

It’s Christmas time once again and the team at Icon Interlude decided that they were going to hold a nice little contest.

All we asked was for some Christmas themed icons, they didn’t have to be emoticons. We wanted to see anything Christmas related in icon form. The iconist community responded with the following entries:

:bulletred: 1st place

:bulletred: 2nd place

:bulletred: 3rd place

Honourable mentions

The entrants

Thats it from us this year with II, Maybe we'll have another contest or publication next year, we'll have to wait to see what time brings.

We'd like to take this chance to thank everyone for their support of Icon Interlude, and to remind everyone to be safe over the holidays.

We wish you a Merry Christmas, and A Very Happy New Year.

Christmas Wishes,

I honestly expected ~kakkr's entry to win this. If you were judging by skill, originality, time taken, and design appeal, he ran away in all four areas. I guess you used a different set of criteria though. This could just be me seeing how dock icons are under-appreciated again...who knows. =p

Either way, congratulations to the winners. You had quite a nice turnout of entries.

Congrats to all the winners :) I cant believe how many great entries there were! :faint:

I know it was a long proccess for the judges choosing the winners, but I think they did a really great job! Well done!

Yes, they were skillfully made, BUT they weren't:

Wholefully practical. Only one of the icons really had a definate use, the recycle bin. The rest were rather generic.

They weren't really "original" as such, as there's loads of bauble style icon sets. I for one had seen similar sets before.

Time taken isn't really something you should judge on, because I could spend 12 hours on something, and it could still look total gob-shite.

Design Appeal? Sorry, I dont quite get 100% what you mean there, if you mean how the design appeals to users, I feel these would be more at place on a mac rather than the windows where it was entered.

It has been given an honourable mention, because it was clean and looked very nice. But when we judged it compared to the other entries, we felt it just wasn't as good.

Dock-Icons may be underappreciated, but so are avatars, and so many other galleries. We weren't being politically correct here, we picked what we thought was the best. Not the underdog because it would look good on our part.

TBH, We're also fed up of being critised because of what we picked. We liked the winners, we felt they deserved it, and it was our competition. So we'd like people to get off our backs.

It was a long process, and with all our work commitments as well, I think we did a good job organising it all.

I'd also like people to get off our fucking backs about the winners, Colin's had to remove his shoutboard because of people  I mean, FFS, it was OUR competition.

Yeah I know, it is a bit unfair. They could say like 'congrats to the winners, I really liked 'so and so's' piece' Or something like that.
